Why I Road Bike
So, why do I road bike? It’s something thats not obvious to many people, that’s for sure. People tend to question the sanity of those who dress up in short skin tight clothes to ride a flimsy self propelled vehicle through a maze of very large motorized killing machines, and enduring sometimes intense physical pain and exertion to do so. In fact, as I read that last sentence, that doesn’t sound like by idea of a good time at all.
No, there must be something else, something beyond the obvious. The first answer that springs into my mind is that perhaps I am not actually sane. Some of my friends might be able to vouch for that theory, but I still don’t think thats it. No, I think the reason I like to road bike can be summed up in one word.
Freedom.
A little generic of answer, perhaps? Maybe so, but freedom is what I feel as a move myself under my own power for countless miles. Freedom is what I feel when I descend the curvy mountain road after a challenging climb. Freedom is what I feel when I use my commuter bike to go run errands. Freedom is what I feel when I pull ahead to the front of the pace line.
Yes, bikes, to me, mean freedom. When I’m riding on my bike, I don’t depend on anyone else for anything. I am my own person, moving myself under my own power, and that’s something that even the highest gas prices in the world won’t stop for me. As long as I have my bike, and can keep in good working order, I will ride. Nobody can take that freedom away.
